truFlex
What is truFlex
-
truFlex is a non-invasive muscle-sculpting / muscle-toning device developed by Cutera.
-
It uses a technology called Multi-Directional Stimulation (MDS): bio-electrical pulses that cause muscles to contract, simulating the effects of exercise (e.g. crunches, squats, twists) without actual movement.
-
The device was previously called “truSculpt flex” but is now marketed under the truFlex name as part of Cutera’s “truBody” lineup.

truFlex is used for muscles, tone, definition (not major fat loss)
The main goals of truFlex treatments typically include:
-
Strengthening and toning muscles in targeted areas: abdomen, glutes (buttocks), thighs, obliques; sometimes other areas like arms, lower back, calves, depending on the provider.
-
Improving muscle definition and firmness for people who want more tone (especially “hard-to-target” areas) without surgery or heavy time commitment.
-
For people who already work out (or want to complement workouts) or for those who struggle to achieve a certain level of muscle tone even with diet/exercise.

How it works
-
A typical truFlex session lasts about 15 minutes (for newer “rapid” modes) much shorter than many traditional workouts or procedures.
-
The device can target multiple muscle groups at once up to 8 areas simultaneously instead of just one or two.
-
It features three “modes” to mimic different types of workout stimuli:
-
“Prep” mode: warms up muscles with twisting/stretching motions
-
“Tone” mode: builds muscle endurance and strength via sustained contractions
-
“Sculpt” mode: delivers deep, strong contractions to increase muscle mass and density similar to a high-intensity workout stimulus.
-

What are the benefits
-
Improved muscle tone, firmness, and definition in treated areas (abs, glutes, thighs, etc.).
-
Increased muscle mass and strength (some studies/reports cite ~30% increase in muscle mass in treated areas after a series).
-
Non-invasive, no downtime you don’t need anesthesia and you can resume normal activity quickly.
-
Faster than many workout regimens: a session is short (15–45 min depending on protocol) and can target multiple areas per session.
Considerations
-
It’s primarily for muscle toning if fat loss is your goal, this is not sufficient alone.
-
As with any muscle-stimulating treatment, some mild side-effects are possible: tingling, mild discomfort, muscle soreness after treatment, maybe slight skin irritation where electrodes attach.
-
Results typically require multiple sessions. Many providers suggest a “series” rather than just one treatment for noticeable effect.
-
As with cosmetic/aesthetic treatments broadly results vary by individual (muscle condition, lifestyle, consistency, etc.)
